No Bank Holiday Coverage
The EKMT regret to announce that, due to staff shortages, it will not be possible to open our museums on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5th. We apologise for this lack of coverage, which caused by circumstances beyond our control.

One Day Closure: 20th April
Due to unfortunate staff and volunteer shortages the Ramsgate Maritime Museum will not be open on Sunday April 20th. This alteration of normal opening hours applies only for the one day and the Museum will otherwise continue to follow it’s traditional summer opening times of 10am till 5pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Stirling Castle Gun Returns to Maritime Museumpp92abcb76.jpg
On Wednesday 19th March the Demi-Cannon raised from the wreck of the Stirling Castle returned to Ramsgate Maritime Museum at the end of the conservation process. The barrel, which weighs almost two-and-a-half tonnes, has spent the last sixteen months in the laboratories of Mary Rose Archaeological Services and will now return to the Museum’s Gun Room. Further items, including wadding and even a sample of gunpowder recovered from the barrel during conservation, will shortly be joining it on display while the carriage recovered along with the cannon will return to the museum towards the end of the year.

Half Term Opening Hours
During the Half-Term Holiday week the Ramsgate maritime Museum will be opening for an extra two days: on Tuesday the 19th and Wednesday the 20th of February the doors will open at 11am and last admission will be at 4pm as per the normal Winter opening hours.
This is an exception to the normal opening hours, with the Museum otherwise remaining closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until the resumption of Summer opening times at Easter.

The Big Day Out 2008, March 29th
Ramsgate Maritime Museum will be taking part in the Big Day Out promotion again this year. Vouchers for free entry to the Museum, and many other attractions across Kent, will be available from the end of February.

Sundowner to attend wreath laying off Deal
On Tuesday 12th February 2008 Ramsgate Maritime Museum’s Dunkirk ‘Little Ship’ Sundowner will be joining the Royal Navy’s mine counter –measures vessel HMS Ledbury, patrol boat HMS Raider and otherppdbffeded.jpg craft in a wreath laying ceremony off Deal.  The ceremony marks the 66th Anniversary of the Royal Navy and Fleet Air Arm attempts to halt the passage of the battle cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau and the cruiser Prinz Eugen from the French port of Brest to their home base in Kiel, Germany in 1942 – the famous Channel Dash.  The action resulted in the deaths of Lt. Cdr Eugene Esmonde, V.C; D.S.O; RN, and twelve of his Fairy Swordfish aircrew.  Weather permitting, Sundowner and an Estuary Services pilot launch will leave Ramsgate on the morning of the 12th and rendezvous with vessels from Dover at a point in Trinity Bay where the ceremony is scheduled for about 12.45pm.  For more details visit the Channel Dash Association’s website at www.channeldash.org.

Christmas Opening Hours
The EKMT’s museums will be closed over the following holiday periods.

Ramsgate Maritime Museum
Closed from Sunday the 23rd of December, re-opening on Thursday the 3rd of January.

Margate Museum
Closed from Thursday the 20th of December, re-opening on Wednesday the 9th of January.

At other times the museums will operate their normal winter hours. The staff of both museums and of the EKMT wish all of their patrons a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
